Blessed Christmas and Happy 2012

In this world of superficial and commerical advertisements, take a moment and wish those around you a blessed Christmas.  Our society has become almost afraid to say “Merry Christmas” and instead makes the greeting generic “Happy holidays.”  Let’s remember what the reason really is for our “holiday” !!

2012 will also bring a renewed focus on the policital presidential election for the United States.  As Christians, it’s important – demanded of us, even – that we keep Christian principles foremost in our minds and hearts as we consider voting.  This is not a superficial reaction to complex issues, but instead calls us to deeply pray, reflect, and discern the true intents and impacts of issues.  Those who pretend that the Christan vote is simplistic or easy have missed the complete essence of being Christian.  Being Christian means that we are called to engage deeply with those who blame the poor, those who condemn the sinner, and those who ignore the hungry.  Jesus calls each of us to live according to his example – be an advocate for the discriminated against, be an advocate for those who have no voice, and hold accountable those who have control over our government.  This is not easy and this is not popular.  Yet it is exactly what we are called to do as Catholics, as Protestants, and as evangelicals.  It is as simple as asking ourselves “what would Jesus do?” and emulating him.

We look forward to engaging with you in the deepest considerations of the Christian heart in 2012.  We hope you have had a nice Christmas in the trust and purest intent of the holiday.  And have a blessed and safe 2012.
